You really can’t start something this big without a plan. I need to plan my workouts to be highly effective but done from home and with what equipment I have available here. I need to plan a workable diet to get the greatest benefit in the shortest amount of time (but not one that will make me so mean that I kill my husband). I’ll also need to plan when and where I’ll get the necessary rest to recover from the workouts.
I’ll also need to look honestly at where I am and where I plan to be as well as the time frame I’ve given myself to accomplish this.

I really don’t like sharing this information but I suppose that is what will make this journey interesting. I weigh 214 pounds and have 40% bodyfat. That means only 128.4 pounds is lean body mass (muscle and bone). That’s a lot of extra fat to be carrying around.
As I’ve mentioned, my particular situation will not allow for the hiring of a trainer, nanny or personal chef. That means I’ll have to be particularly disciplined and consistent in my approach, continue to manage my household and care for my children and do all my own food shopping and preparation. We’ll discuss these handicaps later.

I will not have the benefit of a trainer during my program. That means I’ll have nobody to be accountable to (except my readers – and who knows if I’ll have any! Please give a shout out if you’re reading?)
I also will not have the benefit of the promise of a really big payday when I’m done. Linda Hamilton was paid for her part as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. I have no idea how much but I’m sure it is more than I make in about ten years!
These are two motivational factors I’ll have to find some way to duplicate (or substitute). Any ideas?

“Hamilton also shed 12 pounds on a nonfat diet that revolved around cereal with skim milk, chicken, and dry salads.” She also managed to get down to about 14% bodyfat.
That looks like it is not only nonfat but also very low in carbohydrates. A low/no carbohydrate diet is extremely effective in the short term but It sure can make a person mean. I’ve tried it before and it isn’t pretty. In fact, Sarah Connor’s ability to appear so mean in T2 just might have been because of the low carb diet! I’ll have to explore my diet options in this area and see what I can live with – without killing anyone.

“Hamilton, 34, was a recent mother (her son, Dalton Abbott, is now 20 months old) with a few pounds of baby fat left when personal trainer Anthony Cortes began working with her last summer, 13 weeks before T2 shooting started. They trained for three hours a day, six days a week, usually in the garage of the actress’ Santa Monica home. The regimen continued throughout the grueling six-month shoot. Her drills included aerobic exercise (running, biking, swimming, or stair-climbing) followed by free weights interspersed with mini-trampoline work — and, for dessert, walking lunges or an abdominal series.”
Three hours a day, six days a week is a lot to fit into my schedule. After all, I have two kids and no nanny. I’ll have to give that some thought.
Aerobic exercise, free weights and more of the same. Clearly she worked very hard to achieve the look she did. She did have the benefit of a personal trainer and a big paycheck to keep her motivated to stick with it. Could an imaginary trainer and paycheck be just as motivational? We’ll see!

Have you seen Terminator 2?
Linda Hamilton looked positively amazing in that movie. In the first Terminator, she was soft and feminine and I guess I see myself as that very soft type right now. (Albeit with quite a few more pounds than she’s ever seen in her life!)
I used to be a hardbody, back before I had my children. I slimmed down to 170 prior to having each of my kids. It took me two years after the first to finally do it but I did. Now, on the verge of my youngest’s first birthday, I think it is really time to start focusing on getting back to the hardbody I really loved walking around in.
I’m setting Linda Hamilton’s physique (circa T2) as my goal. She was 5’5” and weighed 112. I am 5’10” and would look terribly emaciated at 112 so I will set a more realistic weight goal.
